My Poem “Mr. Rejection” about manuscript rejections, of course :-)

Greetings, Everyone! 🙂

I’am taking the freedom to approach you today with a situation that practicaly makes us writers to cry oceans, not rivers… and it is “The Rejection of Manuscripts”…    I mean, “Yikes! How heavy is this!”  You took the chance, you enjoyed writing your manuscript, it’s your baby, and it’s ready after so many drafts and loud out readings.    You started to send your “Submissions”  to literary agents and / or  publishers, and you are waiting patiently for days, weeks, months, years… and then you finally start to get answers, and yes, it doesn’t say it, it’s not physically there, but it is hiding in there, somewhere, the word “Rejected”

I have been rejected myself, and at the beginning I was so ignorant about this situation…  I thought… “Am I Wrong?”  “Maybe I’am not good enough!” “Should I write it all over again differently?  Hell No! That’s my voice and I won’t change it!”  And there I was again, laying on my bed at nights, talking to myself,  talking to God searching for comfort, for light about it.    Then my curiosity took me to search the internet, because in my ignorance I thought I was forever and ever the rotten cherry from the yummy delicious cake! lol… and I found out that many authors , who have and had or should have the word “Greatness”  almost tattooed in their foreheads, were rejected too…  Poor publishers, I bet they banged their heads on the wall, and their descendants will do the same as well. .. probably until the end of times, just to speak.

Just to mention a few best seller authors…

Stephen King –  He explains that whenever he got a rejection, he would stick on a nail. He started submitting stories to magazines at the age of 16, but didn’t get published until he was 20… He is the man who wrote “Carrie”, people!!!

J.K. Rowling – Her first Harry Potter novel was submitted to twelve publishing houses, all which rejected the wizard boy. But a happy reader, who was the CEO’s young daughter from small London publisher named “Bloomsbury”, decided to print the book.  Note–  Bloomsbury is not small anymore! 🙂

Nicholas Sparks –  Did you know that his famous “The Notebook” was rejected 24 times???  (I’am totally in love with the book and the movie)

Margaret Mitchell –  Correct!  That amazing lady who wrote “Gone with the wind”.  I guess you didn’t know it was rejected by 38 publishers before finding the right one to believe in her and  her novel!!!

Dr. Seuss –  Yep, our lovely creator of the “Grinch” that I bet many of us watch the movie or read the book each Christmas with our families!  Pulitzer winner!   His first book  ” And to think I Saw It On Mulberry Street” was rejected 27 times!!!   He wrote such an original and creative piece, a book with a new way of writing that publishers were afraid to publish him, fearing there wouldn’t be any juvenil market for it… and look how the things turned out for him!  Just Amazing! 🙂

I advice you to search the internet and you will find out that the  list  of famous rejected writers  keeps going and going!  Can you imagine “Charles Dickens and his masterpiece  “Great Expectations”  got also rejected?  I wouldn’t in a million of years until I found it myself.

I strongly think and feel that when you really want something in life, you must put all your heart and soul into it,  doesn’t matter how many times you’ll get “Knocked out!”

I’am taking this space to thank my publisher…  Ms. Donna Quesinberry  owner, agent, and publisher of  “DonnaInk Publications”  for signing my debut book “The Composer and The Flycatcher”, and signing me as new author.   All my gratitude, respect, and admiration.

Ohh, yes, the poem…

Mr. Rejection

By Diana Arco

My dear writer

I’am here to bring you awareness,

You, who have been rejected by Mr. Rejection.

And you, who are just starting to live the adventure.

I’am here to tell you:

Don’t give up!

Please, don’t give up!

It doesn’t matter how many homes you have to send your submissions,

And Mr. Rejection following your foot steps so close,

There is always one room waiting for you,

Only if you really want to and you are sure of,

To welcome you with open arms

and make more than one dream come true.

I’am asking you to open your heart first, then to see with your eyes.

Mr. Rejection is only telling you to find your right place in this world.

“Where? Please… Where?” – You might ask…

In the literary world, of course!

“But it’s so huge!” – you might complain…

But there are enough readers for each one of us, writers.

To reach their hearts, minds, and souls within our tales.

And publishers are so aware about that,

That’s  why they keep searching and publishing us.

We depend one from another,

We are one in the infinite land of possibilities.

So, please, my dear writer

Don’t hate Mr. Rejection

Don’t get into despair because of him.

He is only helping you.

Following you like a guardian angel

To place you where you really belong.

Trust me,  my dear writer,

I walked the road with him myself.

Please stay in touch for more…

Writer, who are you? – Poem –

Writer, who are you?

By Diana Arco

You are asking me who I’am.

And I’ve listened to your question carefully,

not echoing inside my head,

But into my heart and soul so tenderly.

Who I’am?  Who I’am?

I’am not a writer,

I’am far away to be…

But I’am your writer,

Thank You for choosing me!

I’am the creator and explorer of such worlds;

The owner of my entire universe,

The fantasy and the reality that Iám  sharing with you.

I’am what you are looking for.

Your time, freedom, and space.

I’am even the reflection of your mirror,

Only when you  let me be.

I’am the one who has your attention,

the ups and downs of your actual experience, situation.

I’am what  you’ve been waiting for

For you, just, you… my dear reader.

I’am your night and day

Your shine and  fog

Your rain with its storm,

Just the colors or your true colors…. it’s your call…

I’am what it’s there and what it’s not

I’am everything you let me be for you today and until your time goes by…

I’am myself today, always, forever, and beyond…

That’s something I’am happy with

and I won’t change at all.

As long as you let me make you happy…

I know…

You are here, visiting me now.

Please, stay tuned for more.

It’s Alive!!! Alive!!!!! Fiction Character Poem.

Greetings, Everyone! 🙂

I woke up this morning with the feeling to talk to you about how I  created my characters for my upcoming book “The Composer And The Flycatcher”.   I wrote a “draft” that I had to throw it away since, unfortunatelly for me to say it, I found it very and terrible  boring.   I sounded like a walking encyclopedia myself… I’am so guilty, You know.    Then I’ve got the inspiration and decided to talk to you about this in my own way…  “Poetry”…  so here it goes, in a poem, my perceptions, feelings, situations that I went myself through to achieve my creations.

It’s Alive!  Alive!  My fiction Character – Poem.

By Diana Arco.

I wondered about you so many times,

I even had a journal and pen under my bed at nights.

I was waiting for you to show up with your light

To wake me up from my sleep to meet you at last.

I wondered about you with excitment and emotion.

Always ready to ask you… Who are you?

Where do you come from?

What’s your purpose?

I used to close my eyes and daydream about your possibility.

I always knew you was there waiting for me

to discover you hiding in plain sight

into those pages somewhere unwritten.

Making the invible ink visible to my heart first then to my eyes,

Not forcing you, of course, cause’ even fiction characters need their freedom

Not threatening you, of course, you need my respect and love.

Not even getting into despair, no,  I always knew you were there at home.

And then, it just happened..

I saw you just right there standing beside me

With all your colors and your splendor

With all your faces, pains, flaws, and frustrations.

You just arrived fine, and simple,

Making this writer of yours so happy.

I needed you so much in that moment

you was there introducing yourself to me openly.

And I wrote, and I described you.

We had this interview between us, so magical.

I heard your voice, clear and sound.

I felt your essence, alive, so free and with trust.

You made me smile when you  decided to stay,

For the amazing adventure that I just created for you to live in.

But you are waiting to be discovered,

You are there excited for them to meet you as well.

“Readers, readers. please, come here and meet me!”

I heard you say.

“I’am going to take you into this new adventure.

You’ll see…  Me –  your character – and my home – the book – are worthy of you.”

We are “one” now,

and we’ll always be together

inside those pages that were written with love,

into ‘The Composer and The Flycatcher” the heart and the soul.

Please, stay in touch, there is more to come.

What’s behind “The Composer and The Flycatcher” tale?

Greetings! 🙂 ❤

When I’ve got the inspiration to write “The Composer  and T’he Flycatcher”, yes it came from an early baroque song and from the singing of a bird who used to visit me outside my window some years ago-  I felt inside of me the wish to create an amazing world from it.  Yes, a fantasy tale, but “soaking” it with  feelings that we all experience in our lives..   When I say “soaking”it, it’s for example, when I write a letter or a poem to someone I love and to a friend, I’am not just writing it, I’am “soaking” my words with my all my heart and soul.  It’s like I’am “sending” myself within every single word, stop, comma, exclamtion and space written in the page.  If I don’t feel it, I’am not writing anything to anybody at all.  When I write something is like taking care of a garden.  You know your flowers and your plants will die if you don’t give them water, if you don’t give that especial attention that they need.   You love your garden and you have this urge need to have it always beatiful, to nurture it, so you can visit it and enjoy it all the times you want to.

So, what’s behind “The Composer and The Flycatcher” tale?

I’ve been told and I’ve been searching about “what’s our purpose as human beings here in this world?”  I used to ask to myself the same question over and over again.   “What I’am doing in here?”  I used to said to myself “I don’t want to waste my time in here”  “I wish to have knowledge!”  “I need to know If I really have a purpose in here!”  I asked to myself over and over “Is it breathing and feeling only my purposes?”  “Is it just having a good job and earn money?”   “Is it just born, get old, and die?”  I used to complain about the ignorance I was myself into.   But then, it took me a while, but I came to a conclusion that we all are here to find and experiment unconditional love in every possible way of our existence.

But, what kind of love?

  • Love to God.
  • Love to yourself first.
  • Love to your especial people in your life – family, boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, kids, friends.
  • Love to your world.  it’s our home, the only place we have.
  • Love to your commitments, your goals.  To all that you do in your every day life.

I’ve have experienced that when I do things with love, there are no doubts in myself and things go amazingly great!  When you don’t believe it, when you don’t feel it right, when you just do something just to do it… it’s when you experiece the “bumps” in the road.  Even “thinking”  Hey , I might like to try this!  and there is no love, not excitment within, even if you have all the best intention in your mind, if you don’t put your heart, and your soul to what you do, you are going down.

Yes, it’s valid to feel ourselves “lost” sometimes, to feel “tired” and that we are not going to make it… but you gotta get up, trust in yourself, your love, because life it’s so exciting, so amazing, to be like this all the time.   Embrace yourself, cheer up!

So, again, what’s behind “The Composer and The Flycatcher” tale?

Ít’s love!

Please, stay in touch… there is more to come.

Where The Words Can Really Dance?

Happy Friday, Everyone!

Before I continue talking about my upcoming fantasy and poetry prose tale “The Composer And The Flycatcher”  I’m taking this time to talk to you about “Words”… but not just plain words…  I mean, all those words that can really dance.

Ok, right now, just in fact, my words are “already” dancing inside of my head.  Those words that I already chose to talk to you in this post.  I have them just right there at reach… they are like those dancers – doesn’t matter their age and phsycal complexion, their background and social status- that are playing and fooling around in the dance room, while others are warming up, and I’am just clapping my hands, taking their attention, asking them to take their places to start to dance, all of them, as one.   What about those dancers that are not doing it right.  I’ll do anything I can to help them out, to give that extra push that they need, to make them feel sure of their steps… to help them feel “happy”, to smile.   After all, what they really need is practice, feeling, and caring, “believe” and  “love” in what they are doing.

So, Where The Words Can Really Dance?  I Ask…

I strongly believe that words can really dance, that they are not there, where people put them, just by accident in a poem, the lyrics of a song, in the narration of one book, and in our everyday life…

In poetry, for example…  my all time favorite poem is “Phenomenal Woman”  by Maya Angelou (Please, open the link if you wish to read it)  In here, the writer is taking the freedom to express herself in the  love a woman has for herself, even she doesn’t consider herself beautiful, she is such a phenomal lady in her own way.   Note-  Ladies, we are all beautiful, please have this always in your heart and soul, because what you feel, what you think, what you share, it’s what others perceive in you.

In a song, for example… I absolutely love the lyrics in Rihanna’s “Diamods” (Please, open the link if you wish to listen to the song)  Tell me, you are with your love and both feel so comfortable one to another and you both are walking around, and you kiss, you hug… you two get people’s attention.   When you love, when you really love… you shine… you really shine…

In a book, I’am taking  an excerpt from my favorite book “The Alchemist”

“The boy continued to listen to his heart as they crossed the desert. He came to understand its dodges and tricks, and to accept it as it was. He lost his fear, and forgot about his need to go back to the oasis, because, one afternoon, his heart told him that it was happy. “Even though I complain sometimes,” it said, “it’s because I’m the heart of a person, and people’s hearts are that way. People are afraid to pursue their most important dreams, because they feel that they don’t deserve them, or that they’ll be unable to achieve them. We, their hearts, become fearful just thinking of loved ones who go away forever, or of moments that could have been good but weren’t, or of treasures that might have been found but were forever hidden in the sands. Because, when these things happen, we suffer terribly.

“My heart is afraid that it will have to suffer,” the boy told the alchemist one night as they looked up at the moonless sky.

“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second’s encounter with God and with eternity.”

“Every second of the search is an encounter with God,” the boy told his heart.  “When I have been truly searching for my treasure, every day has been luminous,  because I’ve known that every hour was a part of the dream that I would find it.
When I have been truly searching for my treasure, I’ve discovered things along  the way that I never would have seen had I not had the courage to try things  that seemed impossible for a shepherd to achieve.”

Note –  This is my favorite excerpt from the book.   Can you feel it?  Can you embrace the powerful message in here?  You are not made of stone, I’m sure of it.   These dancing words always get me every time I read them.

– In our every day life –   I strongly believe there are 5 words to place them in two sentences.

– I Love You

– Thank You

I believe these 5 words are the most amazing dancers from all the world!!!  It does’t matter people’s languages, cultures,  places,  we just need to dance always with them.   We are “I love you”  and we are “Thank You”… today, always, forever, and beyond ourselves, in every possible way.

To close my today’s post… I feel the need to say this:   I know some people are like this song  My advice.  You better find the right words because if you don’t you’ll miss many “blessings’ in your life.  In my experience, it’s better to take the risk, even to look like a fool yourself just for a little while, than just keep the wish, the desire, inside of your heart.

Please, stay in touch, there is more to come…

All the light, life, love, freedom from my heart and soul.

The Inspiration Behind “The Composer And The Flycatcher”

Greetings! 🙂

I’m taking this moment to talk about how did I find the inspiration to write my book “The Composer and The Flycatcher”…

I must say I wasn’t seated watching my white page in word document on my laptop’s screen, letting the time goes by while I was waiting for the inspiration to arrive.    As you know the inspiration arrives at any moment, any place, any time, so I always have with me a small notebook that I have inside my purse.

So, how this adventure started four years go?

I love to listen music, any kind of music, and there are times when I just feel the need to listen classical and back then I was searching the internet to download amazing pieces to my Ipod.   One day I came accross with a piece from the Early baroque european time.  (Please open to read about this amazing music and time).

In this particular piece the flute is playing and the violin is answering… and I just fell totally in love with the sounds.    Here is the link if you would like to listen to it   Please go to the  48:46,  yes, at the end, it’s the last song from all the album.   Enjoy!

Now, I need to make a break about the “Early Baroque” song to jump into a very excited experience that happened  to me that also inspired me to write my book.  I remember very well.  It all started one saturday morning in the summer of 2009 when I was visited by a bird.  The little one started to sing outside my window.   It was so nice!  Even my mom listened the singing.   I remember I told her I’ve never listened to a bird singing like that before.  Unfortunatelly the singing didn’t last much, I only was able to enjoy it for a few weeks… until this day I haven’t been able to listen any other bird singing like the little one who used to visit me.

Back to the “Early Baroque” song again…  One day I was listening to the song… the flute speaking and the violin answering.  Then, somehow it hit me.  In my mind I saw an old man dancing while playing his violin and a little bird flying around him doing the part of the flute.   The man was wearing the Baroque’s time clothing  He was dancing in his living room, happy.    Then I remembered the little bird that used to sing outside my window, and it just all made sense to me.  I took my notebook and I started to write some ideas…  and  I wrote the plot after that, the characters’ descriptions, the colors and the smell of their city and their home, the music, the feelings, the pains…  It took me hours, then days, but I was so happy with my idea.

Then I thought about finding the right bird for my tale…

Since the baroque time took place in Europe, specially in Italy,  this is where I decided my tale will take place.   And after a long search of possible birds,  I came up with this little one…    Isn’t he lovely?  Sometimes  I love to see him flying and singing inside my head.

Please, stay in touch for more…

Diana ❤  🙂
