Things that Writers Should Do And Never Do About Writing – Links

writing key words

Greetings, everyone!

I’am a new writer and I’am about to get published this year for first time with my poetry prose fantasy tale “The Composer and The Flycatcher” http://www.prlog.org/12144423-donnaink-publications-signs-author-diana-arco-and-her-title-the-composer-and-the-flycatcher.html http://www.donnaink.org/#!author-diana-arco/zoom/csi9/image197h
I have a long road to write… I mean to walk, but I woke up this morning with the need to talk to you about “Things that writers should do and should never do” About writing, in general. So, I went into my files and I’m taking the freedom to provide you with the links of the best web pages that I’ve been able to find and that I keep visiting.
My Note: This doesn’t mean you gotta follow all these as the way they are, since life taught me that experience, making mistakes, and have sucess are part of each one of us, but I also found out that it’s good to know things in advance that if you feel them right you could take them to consideration.

So, let’s start with:

“Things That A Writer Should Never Do”

From Writers Digest
http://www.writersdigest.com/editor-blogs/there-are-no-rules/15-things-a-writer-should-never-do
Based on interviews with authors over the years, conferences, editing dozens of issues of Writer’s Digest, and my own occasional literary forays and flails, here are some points of consensus and observations: 15 of them, things anyone who lives by the pen (or seeks to) might consider. It is, like most things in the writing world, a list in progress—and if you’ve got your own Dos or Don’ts to add…

“Things That A Writer Should Do And / Or Needs to Know”

From WikiHow
http://www.wikihow.com/Become-a-Writer
The translation of human experience into an artful literary presentation is the art of writing. Writing is a careful craft that follows certain literary techniques and maintains field standards. Most fields in creative writing (from academia and publishing, to grant and technical writing), require a higher degree, including at least a Bachelor’s degree, and, often, an MFA in creative writing or an MA in literature, journalism, or a related field.
My Note: I enjoy reading articles from “WikiHow”… this is an amazing website to explore.

From the New York Times Blog
http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/07/22/should-we-write-what-we-know/?_r=0
My Note: A very interesting article that to my consideration it’s worth reading.
Should we write what we know? this is a very interesting question… and tricky too.

From Firstwriter.com
http://www.firstwriter.com/writing_tips/
My Comment: The article says “For the aspiring writer” but I find this article very usable for coming back and read it all the times you need, even when you’ve been published.
Firstwriter.com it’s one of my favorites web pages.

Happy Writing, Everyone!

Sincerely,
Diana.

You Had To Quit To Start To Live – Inspirational Poem.

Bird to Freedom

Greetings, everyone!
Happy Friday!

I felt the need to write a poem about a character who had to quit something to start to live, and I’m taking the freedom to share it with you today.
You know? We all have the choice to quit and start something new to achieve love and happiness.
We all deserve the best in life. We deserve respect as the human beings that we are.
Choices are seeds from the heart and they are there waiting to bloom in each one of us at their right time.
Make a choice for the better and save yourself from the dark path.

You had to quit to start to live-
Inspirational Poem.

Wonderer of all matters of the earth and the sky.
You had to quit something to start to live.
The discovering of a new way,
As a powerful human being within.
Once the choice lives
With the heart and soul,
and God’s blessings free given,
For such experiences that are arriving
Right to your senses, your reality,
Are there for you as you deserve them.

You, the writer of your own creation,
Your life, your thoughts, your consciouness awakenings
For the better, for the the ignorance and wisdom,
For those unique moments in the name
Of all that’s left behind,
But it’ll never be forgotten
Like that cherished heart from the past
That has been missed with tears in the eyes.

You’re such indivual of great courage
Or a huge despair or both.
Indivual of great love, madness,
And frustrations.
Indivual of great passion,
Explosion of emotions like stars to the moonlit sky.
You did what you had to do
In the name of all wonders
Starting with yourself.

Your days and nights
Your hours of meditations,
Still secrets and mysteries of your path.
Your moments of work and direction,
Definition and application of your structure,
Your light, life, love, and freedom..
You matter, you worth it, you deserve it.
You just didn’t quit, not precisely…
Because “You live.”

The Writer In Us! Where to go?

How writers are

Greetings, everyone!

Happy monday and starting of the week!

I felt the need to come here to you and talk about ourselves, the “writers” that we are.
Some of us are accomplished and successful writers, or we are just starting the adventure, while others only write for themselves and their loved ones. There it is the writer in us, and we are in the need to express ourselves, to create a whole new world, to follow all the rules, to break them all, to create new rules, to follow our own consciouness in our master pieces.
We enjoy this freedom to sit ourselves in a confortable place or a noisy one, and there we are listening to music or the noise, drinking our favorite beverage, and getting in touch with our spark of inspiration. Our fingers fly holding the pen that writes on that notebook when we feel ourselves oldfashion. Our hands fly all over the keyboard of our laptops. We are just creating, giving form to that love letter with all our soul, or to that poem, or that chapter of your manuscript, or that article for your blog, or for that famous magazine, journal. It’s like breathing, eating, walking, running… it’s part of each one of us in our daily lives.
Every single day a master piece is born and it’s on its way into the light. I strongly believe each word created was meat to go out and reach where it must. How this happens? It is you, my dear writer, the one, the owner of your own writing’s destiny. I bet you have experienced that a weak writing is not going anywhere. I strongly believe that when you write with all your might, all your intentions, your affirmations, all that love and positive ways within yourself there is no way that you can go wrong. You must believe you are going to get there someday where you really wish to be, even when you’re not aware about it today, even when you are in doubts sometimes and have fears, you gotta stand up for yourself to find answers and continue your journey… to continue writing. You are the one who gives to yourself the green and / or the red light in your road when you must need it.

Remember, there is someone outside that needs to read you and your creations. They are waiting for you… my dear writer.

Sincerely,
Diana.

All the light, life, love, and freedom from the heart and soul.

A Nice Surprise Waiting For Us At The Pier

SEA PORT VILLAGE 2THE PELICAN AT THE PIER 1

Greetings, everyone!

I went to California last week with my parents for a few work meetings, but we gave ourselves the freedom to escape -one day – to Imperial Beach http://www.sandiego.org/what-to-do/beaches/imperial-beach.aspx to enjoy the place, the sand, the water, the breeze, the people…all the nature around. It was so nice to take a deep breath, experience, and appreciate the gifts that we have in our planet, our home.
We decided to walk on the pier to get a better view of the ocean, and this is when we saw this little one right there at the middle. From all the times I’ve been visiting piers in USA this is the first one I see a Pelican this close… he even posed for my mom’s camera, lol.
I believe that when we bump ourselves with certain animal, this close, it’s because for something. I don’t believe in coincidences, I believe in messages, signs, that even when they look so simple, ordinary, we need to pay attention to what they are delivering.
What’s the pelican’s message then? There is an amazing web page that I like to visit from time to time when I experience something like this, so that’s what I did, and this is what I found about my new bird friend http://www.whats-your-sign.com/symbolic-pelican-meaning.html
It was amazing, because we walked at the very end of the pier and we just stayed there for a few minutes, and when we walked back the pelican was gone.

We really enjoyed this adventure and I thought to share it with you.

Sincerely,
Diana.

What’s a Delayed Gratification? It’s much more than a cookie!

COOKIE MONSTER DELAYED GRATIFICATION

Greetings, Everyone!

I was searching the internet (like every single day) when I found this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_ubVVnWglk Where English Actor Tom Hiddleston http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1089991/ teaches a lesson to the Cookie Monster.

“Good things come to those who wait.” or “The cookie taste better when you wait.”

I just felt the need to share this “knowledge” with you today. After all, it’s something we’ve been dealing with many times, but I thought: “This is a good reminder” to share with my followers in my blog.

Now, to get deep into the matter, this is the “psychology concept” of the delayed gratification.
“Is the ability to resist the temptation for an immediate reward and wait for a later reward.
It’s also associated with resisting a smaller but more immediate reward in order to receive a larger or more enduring reward later.”

For a better understanding about this concept http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delayed_gratification

It’s amazing, in my experience, I’ve been able to apply this concept not knowing I was doing it.
-“How?”- You might ask.

Some examples:
– Saving some money now to spend it later: You break your back at work. Don’t waste your money now… It’s better to know how to enjoy it. I wonder about all the times you said: “I wish I was able to see “that” before getting “this”! So… What I do to avoid this unpleasant moment?… Simple: For example, in a shopping mall…I visit all the stores, then I decide what to get. Sometimes I need something, others it’s just a gift to myself. Also… and this one is important! It’s so amazing when you know what you want to buy and you see the same item in different stores under different prices! Even when you feel tired of so much walking you’ll be grateful with your “wallet”.. I mean… your choice.

– Stop and think to choose what’s really important to you: Life, love, jobs. You have always the choice “Freedom” to search, find out, your purpose in this world. BTW! You are the most important “You” in your life. You must be always at the top of your list.. Why? You gotta be the first. Your #1 in everything: Love yourself first to love others. Give yourself a gift first to appreciate it to then give a gift to others. Learn yourself first to teach others.

– Clarify and define goals: a clear understanding of what you want to achieve in a longer-term. All those steps that are going to take you right there, to your ultimate goal. And as you have experienced before… You Are Not Alone! Your goal can be important to someone else, so they’ll jump into your boat.

There are many more “experiences in life” but I just took the freedom to share these ones with you.

So, my friend. I need to tell you this before closing my today’s post:
This the chance you have to use your willpower in a consciously way! The experiences that you patiently wait for and look forward they become much more colorful and memorable than you could ever imagine.

– The Food tastes so much better when you wait for it.
– That day in the movie theater is always enjoyed more when your work is done.
– You pay with cash instead with credit: What you have it’s what you spend. You can use your credit for those difficult and special situations that really requires it.

Delayed gratification gives you the freedom to see the big picture and how everything you do contributes to it. You are creating your own “domino” effect! One piece falls after the another with just a push. Your life’s linked sequence of events, but this time you are experienced them more aware about yourself, your life’s situations, and what’s around you.

Sincerely,
Diana.
